My name is Joe Mansell and I'm a designer based in Auckland, New Zealand. I do creative work in mediums such as print, branding and advertising but my main focus is in internet or interactive design.
After graduating from Otago University , I worked as an animator for an award winning Kid's CD-Rom called Mungo the Pirate. This was followed by a series of Kid's CD-Rom titles for Sunshine Books. My next move was to Wellington where I worked as a freelance interactive designer and taught multi-media classes at Victoria University.
2 years later I stopped off in LA after a surfing trip in Mexico and landed a job as a web designer for an agency creating comedy shows for The Microsoft Network. I spent the next 9 years working for several Interactive Design Agencies in the States, mostly in New York but with with a bit of time in London, San Francisco and Paris.
Agencies I've worked at:
- SteepleChase Media Inc, Los Angeles
- SAP .San Francisco
- iXL. Los Angeles
- iXL .London
- iXL (Avenue A/ Razorfish). New York
- Proxicom .New York
- Cinderella . Auckland NZ
- Permission .Sydney
In 2003 I moved back to New Zealand and formed S4 Media, providing creative, art direction, design and consulting services. I work directly with clients and sometimes with other design and advertising agencies. As well as interactive and web design, I also do branding, print and advertising work. You can see more of my work in my portfolio section.
In 2005 I was offered the role of Creative Director for a new advertising agency called Cinderella. It's claim to fame being the work on the Hell Pizza account. I have the honour of creating NZ's most complained about campaign ever, the Meat lovers Condoms. I started working with Hell when they were just 3 stores. Two years later Hell had grown to 67 stores and become one of NZ's "coolest" and most recognizable brands.
